The following is a list of opportunities we have for volunteers at our agency. If you are interested you can download the volunteer application below or contact us and we would be happy to send one. Marketing and Fund Development

Program Description

The primary focus of Resource Development is marketing, resource, and fund development. This department has the responsibility of either coordinating or directly planning all marketing activities.

 

Duties/ Responsibilities
  1. Market the agency to the public and agency supporters.

  2. To increase name recognition of Center for Human Services.

  3. To raise unrestricted and/or designated funds for agency operations, programs, and/or other specified campaigns.

Time Commitment

Minimum- 1-4 hours per month

 

Requirements

Must be 18 years or older
Valid driver’s license and vehicle insurance

 

Desirable Experience

Basic computer skills, marketing and/or sales experience, verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.

Patterson Teen Center

118 North Second Street, Suite D
Patterson, CA 95363

 

Program Description

Primary focus of the Patterson Teen Center is to provide a safe, alcohol and drug free place for youth to “hang out”, get help with homework and be able to learn new skills.

 

Duties/ Responsibilities

Develop activity calendar, with input from youth participants. Plan, organize & facilitate community service projects. Supervise youth participants.

 

Time Commitment

Minimum- One college semester (3-4 months)

 

Requirements
  1. Must be 18 years or older

  2. Pass DOJ and FBI background check (fingerprinting)

  3. Obtain a negative TB test

  4. Valid driver’s license and vehicle insurance

Desirable Experience
  1. Youth development

  2. Engage youth to participate in community service projects

  3. Planning/ organizing youth activities/events.

Hutton House

201 Jennie Street
Modesto, CA 95354

 

Program Description

Hutton House is Stanislaus County's only shelter for runaway and homeless youth.  While at the shelter clients receive basic residential services, as well as individual, group and family counseling. The program goal focuses on getting youth off the street and reunited with their family.

 

Duties/Responsibilities
  1. Assist houseparent and staff with assigned tasks

  2. Answer the crisis line

  3. Complete intake file information

  4. Lead recreational activities

  5. Tutor youth

  6. Co-facilitate groups with group leaders

  7. Transport youth to meetings, events and appointments.

Time Commitment

18 hours of initial training
1 year commitment
4 hours per week

 

Requirements
  1. Complete volunteer training.

  2. Attend monthly volunteer meetings and trainings.

  3. Must be 18 years or older.

  4. Pass DOJ, Child Abuse and FBI background check (fingerprinting).

  5. Pass Health Screening and test negative for TB.

  6. Valid driver’s license and vehicle insurance.

  1. Experience with teenagers

Community Youth Connection (CYC)

Program Description

The CYC is a group of 13-21 year olds who are involved in youth development activities.  CHS incorporates youth development principals as the foundation for all activities including: giving youth a voice in planning, organizing and implementing activities, volunteer service as a method to bond youth to their communities, creating an environment where youth and adults work together, and leadership development.  Ultimately, youth who participate learn that they can make a difference in their own lives, in their peer groups and in the community.  Youth learn that they are valued.

 

Duties/Responsibilities

Members meet throughout the year and will be involved in leadership development, volunteering, participating on board and committees provide feedback to the agency on programs and services, and other activities deemed important and necessary by the membership.

 

Time Commitment

Members are asked to commit to one year and be available to meet on a bi-weekly basis.

Youth Court

Program Description

Youth Court is a program designed to give students the opportunity for involvement in their community or school by volunteering as an attorney, bailiff, clerk, or jury member.  Youth Court is based on the philosophy that young people are less likely to continue delinquent behavior when confronted by a jury of their peers.  Youth Court does not determine innocence or guilt but focuses on how the young person can “make it right” in their community.

 

Time Commitment

Minimum - 3 hours per week

 

Requirements
  1. Must be 18 years or older

Pathways

Program Description

Pathways is a transitional living and employment program that provides housing and employment services to young adults 18-21years old. Participants may live in a shared apartment for up to 18 months at no cost. The employment program assists participants in obtaining employment.

 

Duties/ Responsibilities

Facilitate groups or classes, develop activities for participates (Art projects, exercise, and outings) tutoring, mentoring, transportation and various clerical duties.

 

Time Commitment

Minimum 3-4 months

  1. Must be 18 years or older

  2. Pass DOJ and FBI background check (fingerprinting)

  3. Obtain a negative TB test

  4. Valid driver’s license and vehicle insurance

Administration/Clerical

Program Description

The mission of the Center for Human Services Administrative team is to provide quality, accurate and timely support services to staff, volunteers and our customers.   In order to meet the demands and provide quality support to our customers, we greatly rely on our community volunteers to assist us.  Whether you have never worked in an office before, have basic clerical experience, or if you are an expert in the administrative and clerical fields, we have a job for you!

 

Duties/Responsibilities
  1. Volunteers that work in the administrative department have a variety of responsibilities which include

  2. Data entry

  3. Word processing

  4. Answering phones

  5. Greeting and welcoming clients

  6. Filing

  7. Making copies

  8. Doing errands

  9. Working on special projects

  10. Assisting with mass mailings

  11. and the list goes on

Time Commitment

The hours are flexible within the Monday through Friday, 8:00 – 5:00 p.m. time period.
