The Community Counseling Program provides comprehensive mental health services to individuals, couples, families and groups for a variety of diagnostic issues and operates on a fee structure determined by the individual’s income and number of dependents. Within these services, practicum clinicians will have the opportunity to conduct assessments, create treatment plans, and maintain documentation.
We expect trainees to demonstrate a strong commitment to ethical practice and professionalism. Familiarity with the ethical guidelines and codes of conduct relevant to your field of study is essential, as you will be working directly with individuals seeking mental health support. Maintaining strict boundaries, respecting client confidentiality, and adhering to the highest standards of care are fundamental aspects of your role as a student clinician.
To be eligible for the Community Counseling program, we require that applicants meet the following additional criteria:
- Enrollment in an Accredited Master’s Program: Applicants must be currently enrolled in an accredited master’s program in relevant academic program, such as psychology, counseling, social work, or a related field.
- Participation in Fieldwork/Practicum Course: Applicants should either be beginning or actively participating in a fieldwork or practicum course as a component of their master’s program.
- Have successfully completed a Diagnostic Statistical Manual (DSM) of Mental Disorders Course: Applicants should have experience with diagnosing clients.
Please note that the Community Counseling program is a volunteer opportunity. We strongly recommend that participants fulfill the agreed-upon duration (minimum 6 months) and commit to a minimum of 16 hours per week, with 3 of those hours dedicated to weekly individual and group supervision (provided onsite). Participants should also expect to work with a caseload of 10 clients. Additionally, participants are expected to commit to an evening shift, unless special restrictions apply.
