For 49 years, Hutton House has served as a safe haven for youth in Stanislaus County. Established in 1976 in small house in Modesto, Hutton House was named in memory of Al Hutton, a dedicated CHS employee.

Today, Hutton House continues to help youth who are experiencing homelessness, have runaway, and youth experiencing crisis ages 13 to 17, offering a 24-hour safe space to provide support and care.
Over time, the issues that youth face have evolved, and Hutton House continues to adapt to fit those needs. In 2021, Hutton House changed locations, expanding its capabilities. It is now located next to the Youth Navigation Center, which offers shelter, housing and comprehensive drop-in services for youth and young adults ages 13 to 24. “I would love to see if we could expand in other ways.” says Patrice Lorenzo, Hutton House Manager. “We continue to work with our partners to see how Hutton House can adapt to best meet the community needs.”
Over the years, former clients have returned as adults to work at Hutton House, becoming fierce advocates for the program. Patrice, Hutton House Manager, says “We have many staff that have come through here that used to come to Hutton House as children. Because it was such a meaningful place for them, they have really found a calling to come back and make it a part of their life. I love that legacy.”
The care and support that is offered by Hutton House speaks deeply to youth and shapes them as adults. Former clients often refer their friends and families to the program, remembering Hutton House as a long-standing safe place for youth.
As Hutton House’s 50-year anniversary quickly approaches, the program remains a constant in the community, being seen as a beacon of stability and joy for the youth in its care.
The goal of Hutton House remains dear, providing a safe and supportive environment for youth who have runaway. youth experiencing homelessness and youth and families in crisis.
The 50th anniversary is a symbol of the program’s success, helping youth and their families throughout the decades with guidance from passionate staff and support from the community.
