Letter from our Executive Director
It is with great pleasure and deep gratitude that I present the 2020-2021 Community Report. In spite of the ongoing challenges the pandemic presented this year, our staff, partners, and the broader community demonstrated adaptability, versatility, and a steadfast dedication to serving Stanislaus County youth and families. This report reflects the triumphs of the past year made possible through our many partnerships and the community’s resolve to rise above.
In 2019, we envisioned a Youth Navigation Center (YNC) that would engage youth, bring stability to their lives, and prepare them for a brighter future. This dream became a plan, and with the generous support of community members, we raised 1.3 million dollars of our 1.5 million dollar goal as part of a capital campaign to turn this dream into a reality. In November 2020, we broke ground at 2008 W. Briggsmore Avenue in Modesto, and the interior construction of the building continued over the course of nine months.
In July of 2021, we celebrated the Grand Opening of the YNC alongside those who helped make this project possible. This new facility houses the existing Hutton House Shelter and Pathways transitional housing services, along with a NEW low-barrier emergency shelter dedicated to youth ages 18-24. It also offers drop-in services, system navigation, opportunities for counseling, and connections to housing. We are excited to see lives changed at the YNC as we take the first step towards our goal of ending youth homelessness in Stanislaus County.
I would like to extend our thanks to each of the individuals, families, and organizations who have supported CHS and the YNC over the past year. As an agency, we look forward to what opportunities the coming year will bring as we strive to be a force for good in Stanislaus County.
