1971 - We became an official nonprofit
Within one year Head Rest had already made huge headway in the war against drugs, grew to 3 paid staff and 20 dedicated volunteers. In 1971 Head Rest registered as a non-profit organization.
We hired our first Executive Director, Roger Thompson, and began seeking government funding to expand services. A 24-hour Drug Abuse Hotline was established, and we began offering education classes on drugs, family crisis, and more for youth and parents.
