New grants and funding were later secured, and by 1989 the agency served an average of 4,000 clients annually. A Community Counseling Program was also established this year.

We expanded our work with local schools by securing contracts with Modesto City Schools and other districts to provide school site services and received funding from Stanislaus County Department of Mental Health to provide counselors at all high schools county wide.

The Student Assistance Program expanded services to additional K-12 sites throughout Stanislaus County with funds secured through a contract with Stanislaus County Department of Education.

Hutton House moved into a new two story home on Jennie Street in Modesto.  The Building Industry Association of Central California generously donated labor and materials to construct the new shelter.  The agency owns the home and the land. The land was purchased through a Community Development Block Grant from the City of Modesto.
